Stephen Mhando, a founding father of Tanganyika (now Tanzania). Foreign Secretary, prominent statesman, diplomat, pan-africanist, civil rights leader in the liberation of Tanganyika & other African countries.

He was a close ally of President “Mwalimu” Julius Nyerere in the early days of TAA/TANU parties, and the struggle for independence of Tanganyika. A prominent Journalist, who fought for the freedom of the press.

An educator in Tanzania and Germany, fondly referred to by his family as the “other mwalimu”. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1969 – 1970.
